Fret-free Clavichord Johann Christoph Georg Schiedmayer, undated
A charming example of a small but fretless clavichord by the master, which I restored for the W├╝rttembergisches Landesmuseum Stuttgart at the time. Here the treble section of the soundboard lovingly follows the course of the bridge in order to provide enough vibrating surface for a singing treble despite the cramped space. The soundboard overhangs the uppermost keys. The double pinning of the bridge, which is carried out up to the top string, ensures good bridge contact of the strings and thus good energy transmission.
