Virginal (muselar) after Andreas Ruckers 1620

This is the type of virginal with a keyboard on the right, called a muselar. Due to the position of the keyboard, the jacks pluck the strings more or less in the middle, which leads to a very specific, unique sound. Due to the large amplitude of the strings, the muselar allows for a switchable effect register in the bass, the arpichordum, as Praetorius calls it. Here, lead wire hooks are guided to the strings from below, so that a buzzing sound is produced.
